Former cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed his disappointment with the selectors for overlooking Varun Chakravarthy’s inclusion in the upcoming Asian Games squad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the squad for the tournament in China, scheduled from September 19 to October 8. The team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, primarily comprises young players as it coincides with the ICC World Cup.

Here is the complete list of players who would travel to China for the Asian Games:

Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahul Tripathi, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Shivam Mavi, Shivam Dube, Prabhsimran Singh (wk)

While the squad features players who performed well in the recently concluded IPL season, there were a few notable exclusions. Aakash Chopra highlighted the absence of Varun Chakravarthy, who had an outstanding IPL campaign, claiming 20 wickets. Chopra expressed his surprise, stating, “If you look at the squad for the Asian Games, it looks good. But if you ask if there is any missing name, then it is Varun Chakravarthy.”

Chopra pointed out that Chakravarthy had represented India in the 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai but was subsequently sidelined from the national team. Considering his exceptional performance as one of the finest spinners in the IPL this year, Chopra expected him to be included in the squad, but unfortunately, he was overlooked.
