India’s World Cup Success Hinges on Jasprit Bumrah’s Fitness: Wasim Akram

Former Cricketer Highlights Shami's Form and Emphasizes the Importance of a Fit Bumrah for India's Campaign

As the 2023 Cricket World Cup approaches, the cricketing world is abuzz with excitement and anticipation. Former Pakistani cricketer, Wasim Akram, recently shared his insights on India’s chances in the upcoming tournament, focusing on two key players who could have a significant impact on India’s performance – Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.

India’s World Cup campaign will kick off with a clash against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Speaking on Radio Haanji, Akram lauded Mohammed Shami’s exceptional form, describing him as bowling like a dream. However, he also stressed the importance of Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness for India’s success in the tournament.

While Akram was uncertain about Bumrah’s current fitness situation, he emphasized that having a fit Bumrah would make a massive difference for the team. Alongside the talents of spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, a fully-fit Bumrah would provide India with a formidable bowling attack.

Akram further noted that playing at home could work in India’s favor but also present challenges. He recalled India’s World Cup victory in 2011 and advised the team to be prepared to handle the pressure of playing on home soil.

“There have been some excellent players coming from India, but there are some disadvantages of playing at home. India won in 2011, but there is always more strain. Pakistan is the same way. If they were the hosts, the spotlight would be on them. ‘Vice versa,'” he said.

As the World Cup approaches, India’s focus on the fitness and form of key players like Bumrah and Shami will be crucial in their quest for success on home turf.
