ICC ODI World Cup 2023: 3 Matches on Single Day after Reschedule

The re-scheduling of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 has become complicated due to the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match being moved to October 14, one day earlier than its original date. This change has led to a cluster of matches that now need to be re-arranged.

The eagerly awaited 50-over World Cup encounter between India and Pakistan has been rescheduled to October 14 instead of October 15. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved the request made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the match date.

On the new schedule, October 14 stands out as a unique day during the World Cup 2023 with three matches planned. Apart from the India vs Pakistan match, there will also be a day game between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Chennai, and an afternoon match between defending champions England and Afghanistan in Delhi. In most cases, a single game is scheduled on most days, while on rare occasions, two matches are slated to take place.

It has been reported that not only the Pakistan vs India match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, but also Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, have been rescheduled. The game against Sri Lanka has been moved up from October 12 to October 10, as originally scheduled.

The reason for rescheduling the India-Pakistan match was to avoid it falling on the opening day of Gujarat’s significant Navratri festival, which holds great importance for the region.

The revised schedule provides Pakistan with an extended gap of three days instead of the initial two days between their matches against Sri Lanka and India. Sri Lanka Cricket is said to have given approval for this proposed change to the match.

After their first World Cup match against South Africa on October 7 in Delhi, Sri Lanka will have a tight turnaround. On October 16, they are scheduled to face Australia in Lucknow following their match against Pakistan.
