Pakistan Squad for Asia Cup 2023: Saim Ayub IN, Rizwan OUT

Mohammed Rizwan is expected to be dropped from Pakistan’s ODI World Cup squad in order to make a place for Saim Ayub.

In the context of the Asia Cup 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has established a Hybrid Model which designates Pakistan as the host for four matches and Sri Lanka for nine matches. The decision to choose Sri Lanka as the neutral venue was prompted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to refrain from playing cricket in Pakistan due to security concerns. This step was taken to prioritize the safety and well-being of all players and officials participating in the tournament.

A notable aspect of the Asia Cup is the intentional placement of Pakistan and India in the same group, a move aimed at enhancing interest and viewership for the competition. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) seeks to capitalize on the intense rivalry between these two teams to amplify revenue and attract a larger global audience.

Pakistan’s campaign in the Asia Cup 2023 encompasses a total of five matches. This comprises two group stage matches followed by three matches in the Super Four stage. Advancing to the final becomes feasible for Pakistan if they secure a spot within the top two of the Super Four stage, potentially setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter against India.
