The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and captain Jos Buttler are planning to approach Ben Stokes for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. White-ball coach Matthew Mott is eager to include Stokes as a specialist batter, even if he doesn’t bowl.

Stokes retired from ODI cricket in 2022 due to the strain of playing all formats, but his performance in previous World Cups is making England keen to have him. Head coach Matthew Mott mentioned that Jos Buttler will lead the communication with Stokes regarding his participation.

Stokes’ contributions with the bat and on the field are highly valued, and his recent leadership during the Ashes series was crucial for England.

The squad announcement is expected on August 15th, and England is among the favorites due to their strong white-ball performance in recent years. Additionally, there’s anticipation for Jofra Archer’s return to the team after recovering from injury and resuming bowling practice.
