Harry Brook Not Happy With Ben Stokes Taking His Place in World Cup 2023 Squad

Harry Brook, the England batsman, expressed his disappointment at not being included in this year’s Cricket World Cup squad. The choice of Ben Stokes to end his retirement from one-day internationals significantly impacted Brook’s exclusion from England’s initial team for the tournament as they aim to defend their 50-over title.

Despite being a promising young player who contributed to a thrillingly tied Ashes series against Australia, the 24-year-old talent was omitted from England’s 15-player roster for the upcoming four warm-up games against New Zealand in September. It is probable that the same set of players will be picked to contend for the World Cup defense in India during October and November.

“Obviously it’s disappointing, but I can’t do anything about it now, you’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore,” Harry Brook said after playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred at Lord’s.

“I’ve not had much conversation with (coach) Matthew (Mott) or (captain) Jos (Buttler). They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time.

“He (Stokes) is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?”

Although Harry Brook’s Test career has begun impressively, his participation in England’s One Day International (ODI) matches has been limited to just three games.

He expressed his confidence in his current form and believed he could bring value to the team. Brook acknowledged that there is always room for improvement and expressed frustration at his lack of chances in one-day cricket, both at the county level for Yorkshire and with the national team. Despite his success in T20 cricket, he noted that his performance might have been affected in the recent months.
