The anticipation surrounding the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup is growing stronger by the day, as evidenced on Tuesday (August 29). The ticketing website, BookMyShow, experienced a rapid crash within minutes of releasing tickets for India’s World Cup matches.
The platform exclusively provided tickets to Mastercard holders, granting them the early opportunity to secure seats for India’s much-awaited matches in the upcoming 2023 World Cup, a day prior to the general public.
In accordance with the ICC’s ticket-sale schedule, fans were set to purchase tickets for India’s warm-up matches in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram on August 30. However, Mastercard holders gained access on August 29.

The initial excitement quickly turned into disappointment as the website faltered mere minutes after ticket sales commenced. Frustrated fans took to social media platforms to express their discontent, prompting BookMyShow to rectify the situation promptly.
Once the website was back up and running, tickets for India’s World Cup warm-up games sold out swiftly. The pre-sale tickets were completely exhausted in a mere 4-hour span.
“A Mastercard (credit or debit, India and international) was a requirement for today’s pre-sale. Each person could purchase a maximum of two tickets, and understandably, the pre-sale tickets were snapped up by fans within an hour,” a BCCI source with insights on the matter informed PTI.
