Sri Lanka disclosed their squad on Tuesday for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023, set to unfold from August 30 to September 17.
Wanindu Hasaranga, the leg-spinning all-rounder, stands among the four pivotal Sri Lankan players who will be sidelined due to injuries during the tournament. Hasaranga is presently recuperating from a thigh strain incurred during the Lanka Premier League, where he earned distinction as the top run-scorer and highest wicket-taker. In addition to Hasaranga, pacers Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara will also be absent from the squad due to injuries.
The squad features the inclusion of Binura Fernando and Pramod Madushan, both of whom were added later due to injuries.
After a two-year hiatus, Kusal Perera marks his return to the ODI squad. However, as stated by Sri Lankan Cricket, he is currently recuperating from a bout of flu and will join the team once he regains fitness. Chameera is grappling with a pectoral injury, Madushanka incurred an injury during a practice match last week, and Kumara is nursing a side strain.
Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup campaign commences on August 31 in Pallekele against Bangladesh.
