Strongest Australia Playing 11 for Cricket World Cup 2023: No Josh Hazlewood & David Warner

David Warner is expected to be the second choice opener in the tournament

Australia has announced their provisional World Cup squad, notably excluding Nathan Ellis while retaining the injured Glenn Maxwell. The final squad will be named by September 28th.

Captain Pat Cummins leads a formidable fast bowling unit featuring Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott, supported by pace-bowling all-rounders Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, and Marcus Stoinis.

However, the spin attack appears somewhat thin, relying on Adam Zampa and all-rounders Ashton Agar and Maxwell. Some of their batters can also contribute with spin.

In the opening department, Marsh and Travis Head form a potent pair, with David Warner likely to adapt his position based on team needs.

The team comprises wicketkeeper Alex Carey and batters Steve Smith and Josh Inglis, who serves as the reserve wicketkeeper. Australia’s abundance of all-rounders provides depth in both batting and bowling, making them strong contenders for the tournament.

Australia has a rich World Cup history, having won the tournament five times, in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015, making them the most successful team. No other team has achieved this feat. In the 2019 edition, they finished second in the league stage but were defeated by eventual champions England in the semi-final.
