Naseem Shah out of action for this year; will miss World Cup 2023, Australia Series

Pakistan’s promising fast bowler, Naseem Shah, faces a likely exclusion from the World Cup 2023 due to a significant shoulder injury sustained during the Asia Cup clash against India. Initial scans conducted in Dubai suggest a lengthy recovery period, possibly sidelining him for the rest of the year. The PCB is contemplating a second opinion, but the initial prognosis is grim, posing a substantial setback for Pakistan, who fell short of reaching the Asia Cup final.

While both Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf suffered injuries in the same India game, Haris Rauf’s injury appears less severe, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup. However, Naseem Shah’s injury could potentially rule him out of the upcoming Test tour to Australia scheduled for December and even the 2024 PSL season.

The formidable trio of Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf had been Pakistan’s pace powerhouse over the past year. With Naseem Shah sidelined, the team will need to explore alternative options. Zaman Khan stepped in to replace Naseem Shah in a recent match against Sri Lanka. Although Pakistan boasts depth in their fast bowling resources, Naseem Shah’s unique abilities with the new ball and during death overs will undoubtedly be missed.
