Shadab Khan, once considered a certainty in Pakistan’s World Cup squad, now faces uncertainty regarding his inclusion in the showpiece event due to a disappointing Asia Cup performance.

Shadab managed to secure only six wickets as Pakistan exited the Asia Cup during the Super 4 stage, with four of those wickets coming against Nepal. His contributions against India and Sri Lanka were limited to just two wickets.

Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, expressed his disappointment with the performance of some senior players, including Shadab. Abrar Ahmed is now in contention for a spot in the World Cup squad.

According to GeoNews, the Pakistan Cricket Board is considering certain administrative changes, including addressing fitness issues and poor form among key players.

Abrar Ahmed gained attention during the Test series against England. This leg-spinner offers a quicker delivery through the air compared to Shadab and has generated intrigue with his performance.

Despite his success in the longer format, Shadab may not be dropped from the World Cup squad. However, reports suggest he might lose his vice-captaincy role, with Shaheen Shah Afridi likely to take over due to his impressive leadership of the bowling attack during the Asia Cup.

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and skipper Babar Azam plan to meet with PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf to make a decision, pending his approval.

Besides Shadab, the place of opening batsman Fakhar Zaman is also uncertain due to his recent struggles, having failed to score a single fifty in the Asia Cup.

Naseem Shah may be ruled out of the World Cup, with Hasan Ali and Zaman Khan as potential replacements. Haris Rauf is expected to regain fitness for the tournament.

Pakistan is contemplating changes to their World Cup squad and will depart for the tournament on September 25th.
