IND vs AUS: Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli Script Individual Milestones in World Cup

India made a strong start in their opening game of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Australia, achieving significant milestones and setting individual records.

The ICC World Cup 2023 witnessed a stunning opening game as India took on Australia, and the Men in Blue wasted no time in making their mark. From the very start, the game was filled with remarkable moments that will be etched in cricketing history, and three Indian stalwarts, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, took center stage by scripting individual milestones.

IND vs AUS: Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli Script Individual Milestones in World Cup

Jasprit Bumrah made an immediate impact in the tournament. In a fiery spell, he dismissed Australian opener Mitchell Marsh for a mere six-ball duck. This historic wicket marked the first time that an Australian opener had been dismissed for a duck in the history of the ODI World Cup by an Indian bowler.

Bumrah’s exceptional bowling not only put India in a commanding position but also etched his name in the annals of World Cup records. His precision and skill were on full display as he left the Australian batting lineup struggling at 5/1 in just 2.2 overs.

Former Captain Virat Kohli, the heart and soul of the Indian cricket team, showcased his brilliance not just with the bat but also in the field. Kohli pulled off a stunning diving catch at first slip to dismiss Mitchell Marsh. With this catch, Kohli achieved a significant milestone by overtaking the legendary Anil Kumble for the most catches by an Indian at the ICC World Cup.

Kohli’s safe hands have earned him the distinction of having the most catches for India in ODI World Cup history among non-wicketkeepers. His tally of 15 catches puts him ahead of Anil Kumble (14), Kapil Dev (12), and Sachin Tendulkar (12).

Skipper Rohit Sharma also etched his name in the record books. At 36 years and 161 days old, Rohit Sharma became India’s oldest captain to lead the team in a World Cup match. This milestone places him ahead of the likes of Mohammed Azharuddin, who led India at 36 years and 124 days in 1999, and Rahul Dravid, who took charge at 34 years and 71 days in 2007.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy tenure promises a blend of experience and dynamism, and his leadership on the field will be crucial in India’s quest for World Cup glory. The Indian team recently trumped Asia Cup 2023 title under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
