Mohammed Shami destroyed New Zealand with 7 wickets in the World Cup semi-final

In the World Cup semifinal against New Zealand in Mumbai, Mohammed Shami made history by becoming the first Indian bowler to take seven wickets in an ODI. His exceptional figures of 7/57 surpassed Stuart Binny’s previous record of 6/4.

Shami’s outstanding performance also established a new milestone for the best bowling figures by an Indian in World Cup history, eclipsing Ashish Nehra’s 6/23 in the 2003 tournament. His crucial wickets, including Conway, Ravindra, Mitchell, Williamson, Latham, Ferguson, and Southee, played a pivotal role in India’s advancement to the final.

Shami’s stellar display not only secured India’s spot in the World Cup final but also set personal and tournament records. His feat as the fastest bowler to reach 50 wickets in the World Cup showcased his remarkable skill and impact.

Shami also equalled the record for the most wickets in a World Cup innings. He became only the fifth bowler after Glenn McGrath, Andy Bichel, Tim Southee and Winston Davis to pick 7 wickets in a single innings of a World Cup match.
