Mitchell Starc to Retire after World Cup 2023? Aussie Pacer Reveals His Plans

Mitchell Starc reveals his retirement plans

Mitchell Starc, currently competing in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, has announced his decision to skip the 2027 ODI World Cup. The Australian cricketer, focused on the upcoming semi-final against South Africa, emphasized his commitment to continue playing in the one-day format for some time.

“I plan to continue playing after this, but I’m sure I won’t be part of the next World Cup. I don’t foresee it. Four years is quite a long period,” Starc conveyed to reporters.

While Starc values his Test career, he clarified that he would retire from the other two formats before contemplating leaving red-ball cricket.

“To me, the World Cup semifinal is simply another one-day game for Australia. It’s not the conclusion of my journey in one-day cricket just yet,” he stated.

Despite a performance below expectations in the ongoing tournament, with 10 wickets at an average of 43.90, Starc remains hopeful about making an impact in the semi-final.

“I haven’t performed at the level I desired, not like the last two World Cups. But now, there’s an opportunity at the critical stage to make an impact again. Bowling first on specific pitches with the new ball and two fielders out has been one of the most challenging times to bowl. As the game progresses, you gain an understanding of the wicket. It’s not a sad story, it’s the nature of one-day cricket,” he said.
