The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test captain Mohammad Hafeez as the director of the national team, succeeding Mickey Arthur, who is pending dismissal. Morne Morkel has already resigned as the bowling coach, while head coach Grant Bradburn and batting coach Andrew Puttick are on the verge of being sacked following Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.

The PCB will unveil the new coaching team for the upcoming series in Australia and New Zealand, with all coaches remaining affiliated with the National Cricket Academy. Concurrently, Mohammad Hafeez is actively engaging with local cricket players to identify potential candidates for the Men in Green coaching role. Meanwhile, Babar Azam has opted to resign as captain across formats after discussions with PCB Chairman Management Committee Zaka Ashraf at the PCB headquarters in Lahore.

Shan’s captaincy tenure is set to extend through the conclusion of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship. His first challenge will be leading Pakistan in a three-match Test series against Australia starting on December 14.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, the left-arm bowler, will make his debut as captain in the upcoming five-match T20I series in New Zealand, scheduled from January 12 to 21.
