The IPL player auction for the 2024 season is set to take place on December 19 in Dubai, marking the first time the auction will be held overseas. This coincides with the second ODI of India’s tour of South Africa on the same day in Gqeberha.
Teams have until November 26 to submit their player retention and release lists, with the auction pool finalization expected by early December. Each team will have a budget of INR 100 crore (approximately USD 12.02 million) to shape their squad, reflecting a INR 5 crore increase from the previous season.

Purse sizes for the upcoming auction vary, with Punjab Kings holding the largest at INR 12.20 crore (USD 1.47 million), while the Mumbai Indians have the smallest at INR 0.05 crore (USD 0.006 million). Notably, the unspent purse from the 2023 auction also factors into each team’s spending capacity.
Despite being a one-day event, mini auctions have witnessed significant purchases, especially in the overseas players category. Sam Curran became the IPL’s most expensive player for the 2023 season, securing a deal worth INR 18.5 crore.
Anticipated additions to the auction include Mitchell Starc, ending an eight-year IPL hiatus, and Pat Cummins, who skipped the previous season. Franchises are also eyeing players like Travis Head, Chris Woakes, Alex Hales, Sam Billings, and Gerald Coetzee for potential bids.
