List of Most Expensive Releases of IPL 2024

RCB released Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood before the Auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made headlines by releasing their highest-paid player, Ben Stokes, setting a trend for other teams to follow suit in freeing up budgets. Here’s a recap of the most expensive IPL releases across various franchises.

Ben Stokes

Despite being the highest bid at 16.25 crore in the IPL 2023 auction for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Ben Stokes had limited impact, featuring in only two matches last season. The likelihood of him being picked by other teams exists, but there’s a potential decrease in his value this time around.

Harry Brook

Harry Brook of England drew attention in the previous IPL auction as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured him for 13.25 crore. However, his on-field performance in the IPL 2023 season didn’t justify his substantial price tag. In 11 matches, Brook only accumulated 190 runs, averaging a modest 21.11.

Shardul Thakur

In anticipation of the IPL 2024 Auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made substantial releases, parting ways with 12 players, including Shardul Thakur. This move boosts their available funds by 10.75 crore. Shardul had a lackluster performance in IPL 2023, managing only 113 runs in 11 matches and securing a modest seven wickets throughout the season.

Wanindu Hasaranga

Surprisingly, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) decided to release Sri Lankan bowler Wanindu Hasaranga, adding 10.75 crore to their IPL budget. Hasaranga, who played a crucial role as a spin bowler for RCB, managed to secure nine wickets across eight games during IPL 2023. This move was unexpected, considering RCB’s apparent need for a dependable spinner in their lineup.

Harshal Patel

In the IPL auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured the Indian bowler Harshal Patel for 10.75 crore. Boasting a commendable track record with 111 IPL wickets and an economy rate of 8.59, Patel has proven his bowling prowess. Nevertheless, his performance in the previous season was subpar, securing 14 wickets across 13 matches with an economy rate hovering around 10 runs per over.
