Despite the setbacks of a challenging loss by an innings and 32 runs against South Africa in the Boxing Day Test and the subsequent deduction of two WTC points due to a slow over rate, Team India finds a glimmer of hope in the return of Ravindra Jadeja.
The esteemed all-rounder, who missed the series opener in Centurion due to an upper back spasm that occurred on the morning of Day 1, has commenced training and is expected to be a viable selection for the New Year’s Test in Cape Town.
Jadeja, traditionally the preferred choice at No.7 over R Ashwin for his superior batting skills in overseas conditions, couldn’t feature in the first Test.

While Ashwin delivered a commendable performance with the ball, taking 1 for 41 in 19 overs under unfavorable spin conditions, Jadeja’s absence was notably felt in the batting department. The left-hander’s proficiency in handling the pace and bounce of South African fast bowlers could provide India with a valuable asset in the upcoming matches.
