The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 will witness the Gujarat Giants facing off against the Mumbai Indians in their opening match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday evening.
In the inaugural edition of WPL, Gujarat Giants suffered a significant loss to Mumbai Indians, conceding a defeat by 143 runs in their first encounter and by 55 runs in the reverse fixture. With a 2-0 head-to-head record favoring Mumbai Indians, history seems to be on their side.
However, Gujarat Giants have strengthened their squad by acquiring the talents of Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield at the auction, which should provide them with a boost.
Meanwhile, the defending champions Mumbai Indians remain a formidable force in WPL 2024. Despite facing a selection dilemma with their overseas players, the emergence of young Indian talent like Amandeep Kaur, a left-arm spinner, adds depth to their squad. Kaur’s impressive form in domestic cricket further enhances Mumbai Indians’ prospects in the tournament.
Having already commenced their campaign with a thrilling victory over Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians are expected to maintain their status as one of the teams to watch out for in the competition.
