When Team India was batting in the match, during this time this penalty was imposed on the US team in the 16th over and India was given 5 extra runs. After this decision of the umpire, Team India got a big relief. At this time the Indian team was under a lot of pressure. It was becoming difficult for the team to score every run. In such a situation, when the umpire gave 5 extra runs to the Indian team, after that there was a lot of commotion in the field.

Actually during the match, the umpire imposed this penalty against America on the field because the American bowlers had delayed starting the over three times in a row. Due to which a penalty was imposed on the US team under the stop clock rule. Let us tell you that this rule has been started by the ICC with this T20 World Cup. This rule has a huge impact on the game, it also saves the players of both the teams from wasting time between overs. The purpose of the stop clock rule has been brought to complete the match within the stipulated time limit.

    What’s This New ICC Rule?

Under clause 41.9 of the ICC, there is a provision to prevent the wastage of time by the fielding team in ODIs and T20 matches. The clock has now been added to sub-clause 4.9.4 in this. This rule was introduced as a trial in ODIs and T20 matches between December 2023 and April 2024 and it will be implemented in 59 international matches.

Under this rule, the fielding team has to start the second over within 60 seconds of the end of the over. The time of 60 seconds will be visible in the electronics installed on the field. If the fielding team does not start the over within 60 seconds, then it will be given two warnings. After this, there will be a penalty of 5 runs for violating the rule.

ICC has clarified that in the group stage match, both the teams must complete at least 5-5 overs, only then this rule can be implemented. At the same time, in the Super 8 match and knockout match, both the teams must complete at least 10-10 overs.
