When will the IPL 2025 Mega Auction be held?

Like the 2022 auction, the mega auction might also be conducted over two days. To remind you, the 2022 auction took place in February, while the process was carried out in December for the next two years. Therefore, the date for the mega auction could be set between December 2024 and February 2025.

Where will the auction be held?

The previous mega auction in 2022 was held at a private hotel in Bengaluru. However, the auctions for 2023 and 2024 were held in Kerala and the UAE, respectively. It is being reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon reveal the location for the auction.

Rules for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Looking back at the major auction in 2022, a total of 204 players were bid on. The total price of these 204 players was reported to be 551 crores. Due to the increasing popularity of IPL and cricket, the number of players in the 2025 mega auction could be even higher. According to chairman Arun Dhumal, each team will be allowed to retain 3-4 players.

A franchise can buy a maximum of 25 players, out of which 8 can be foreign players, but only 4 of these 8 can be included in the playing eleven. As a result, many teams’ squads could be completely changed. Following the successful organization of the T20 World Cup 2024, it is also possible that players from the USA and several other countries might participate in the auction.
