Mohammed Shami made a different splash in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He became the highest wicket-taker in the tournament by playing just 7 matches. While Adam Zampa was the second highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets in 11 matches, Shami became the highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets in 7 matches. Shami has not been able to return to the field due to injury after the ODI World Cup final. However, now he has returned to the field.

Shami is currently in the National Cricket Academy and has started bowling in the nets there. Shami shared a video through social media, in which he is seen bowling in the nets. Although Shami is not bowling with full intensity, but his return to the nets is somewhere indicating his return. Shami can make a comeback through the Test series against Bangladesh in September. BCCI secretary Jay Shah also said about Shami that he can make a comeback from the home series against Bangladesh.

Mohammed Shami suffered a heel injury during the 2023 ODI World Cup itself. After the ODI World Cup, Shami missed the Test series against South Africa in December and England in January. In February, the Indian pacer underwent surgery, due to which he missed the 2024 IPL and T20 World. However, now the discussion about his return is intensifying.

Shami can play domestic cricket before return

Recently, the BCCI secretary made it clear that players playing in the national team should keep themselves available for domestic cricket. In such a situation, Shami can also sweat it out in domestic cricket after being fully fit. Playing domestic cricket after returning from injury will be a good option, which will make it easier for him to achieve match fitness.
