India to Play Two-Day Day-Night Tour Match in Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy

The Indian cricket team is set to play a two-day, day-night tour match against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI between the first two Tests of the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. The series between India and Australia, which kicks off on November 22 in Perth, marks the first time since the 1991-92 season that the two cricketing giants will compete in a five-Test series.

To prepare for the day-night Test in Adelaide, the Indian team will face the Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on November 30 and December 1, as announced by Cricket Australia on their website. The fixture aims to help the Indian team acclimate to the pink ball format, which they experienced during their previous tour in 2020-21.

This year’s Prime Minister’s XI match is particularly special, as it not only underscores the strong cricketing ties between the two nations, which have been growing since India’s independence in 1947, but also celebrates the ever-strengthening economic, cultural, and community bonds between the countries.

Notably, while this will be the fourth time India faces a PM’s XI in Australia, it will be the first time the event is held over two days. Previously, the 48 fixtures dating back to 1951, which included games against touring teams and the ATSIC Chairman’s XI, were all one-day matches.
