New Zealand cricketer Chad Bowes set a new record for the fastest double-century in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 103 balls during a Ford Trophy match between Canterbury and Otago. Bowes broke the previous record of 114 deliveries, held jointly by India’s N Jagadeesan and Australia’s Travis Head.

Opening the innings, Bowes smashed 27 fours and seven sixes before being dismissed for 205 off 110 deliveries. His knock helped Canterbury reach 343/9 in 50 overs, with the next best contribution being Zakary Foulkes’ unbeaten 49.

Remarkably, Bowes had carried Canterbury to 257/5 by the time he hit his double-century. The innings took its toll on the 32-year-old, who needed treatment for back issues during his stay at the crease.

Bowes became the third New Zealand men’s cricketer to score a List A double-century, joining Jamie How (222 in 2013) and Martin Guptill (237* in the 2015 ODI World Cup). Notably, Bowes had previously represented South Africa at the U-19 level, captaining players like Quinton de Kock and Theunis de Bruyn at the 2012 U-19 World Cup.
