In the latest update from Sports Tak, reports reveal that Shreyas Iyer made a significant financial demand from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), requesting INR 30 crore. The franchise, however, found this amount too high, leading to his non-retention. Despite several discussions, the two sides could not reach an agreement.
Shreyas Iyer’s departure from KKR is set to surprise many, especially as he was instrumental in guiding the team to victory in the IPL 2024. His leadership and strong performances turned KKR into a formidable side that season. Initially bought for INR 12.25 crore in the 2022 auction, Shreyas quickly became one of KKR’s key players. Although his first season as captain ended with an early exit, he made a successful comeback last season, amassing 351 runs across 14 matches, including two half-centuries.
In total, Shreyas Iyer has played 115 IPL games, scoring 3,127 runs at an average of 32.24 and a strike rate of 127.48. He previously captained Delhi Capitals, leading them to the final in 2020. Reports suggest that several franchises are already showing interest in signing him for the upcoming auction, where he is expected to secure a lucrative contract.

With Shreyas out of the picture, KKR has retained six players, including Rinku Singh, who was retained at INR 13 crore. Key players Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell were retained at INR 12 crore each, while uncapped players Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh were kept for INR 4 crore each. It remains to be seen who will take on the captaincy role for KKR in the upcoming season.
