BCCI Conducts Six-Hour Review Meeting Following New Zealand Whitewash

Indian cricket is currently grappling with internal issues following its 3-0 Test series loss to New Zealand. On Thursday, a comprehensive review meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The six-hour session involved BCCI secretary Jay Shah, captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

While the main focus was on the team’s embarrassing defeat in the Test series against the Kiwis, much of the discussion also revolved around preparing for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, according to a source who spoke to TOI.

Though the details of the meeting remain confidential, there is speculation of frustration within the selection committee, particularly regarding the sudden withdrawal of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah from the third Test at Wankhede Stadium. India lost the match by 25 runs on a turning pitch.

The source added that the selectors were reportedly unaware of Bumrah’s last-minute exit, which was seen as a major communication breakdown. “It’s important for everyone to be on the same page,” the source said.

Despite Gambhir’s comments suggesting Bumrah would not be rested, the BCCI issued a statement on the morning of the match, stating, “Jasprit Bumrah has not fully recovered from his viral illness and was unavailable for the third Test in Mumbai.”

In the two Tests he played, Bumrah claimed just three wickets at an average of 42.33 from 41 overs. His absence meant India had to field a struggling Mohammed Siraj, who went wicketless in the match.
