The long-standing uncertainty surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 is now gradually turning into hope. The tournament, which was clouded due to political tensions between India and Pakistan, is now seeing positive signs regarding its organization. Although there has been no official announcement yet, reports suggest that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) may make a formal decision next week. According to a Cricbuzz report, the official schedule for Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be announced in the first week of July.
Tournament Likely to Begin from September 10
If everything goes according to plan, the Asia Cup 2025, to be held in T20 format, is likely to begin from the second week of September—tentatively on 10 September. The six participating teams will be India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and UAE. Promotional activities have already started.
UAE Likely to Host the Tournament
The UAE is currently the frontrunner to host the tournament. However, a hybrid model is also being discussed, in which matches may be played in different countries. Although India has been officially announced as the host for this edition, the ACC has already decided that whenever India or Pakistan is the designated host, the matches will be played at neutral venues to avoid political complications.

Trouble Sparked by Past Events
The Asia Cup faced uncertainty following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, after which India launched “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan. This raised doubts about the tournament’s future, with some groups in India even calling for a boycott of Pakistan. Moreover, India and Pakistan do not play bilateral series, which further complicates matters.
ICC Announcements Shift the Mood
Recently, the ICC announced the schedules for two major women’s tournaments—the Women’s ODI World Cup (to be held in India and Sri Lanka) and the Women’s T20 World Cup (in England). Both feature India vs Pakistan clashes—on October 5 in Colombo and on June 14 in Edgbaston, England.
India vs Pakistan matches generate the highest revenue in the cricketing world. While the BCCI is not financially dependent on these fixtures, they are vital for the ICC, ACC, and other member boards’ financial stability.
