Indian Test team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in the spotlight lately. While he was praised for scoring a century in the first innings of the Leeds Test, he later faced criticism for dropping several catches during the match, which eventually contributed to India’s defeat. Amid this, an important update has emerged regarding his domestic cricket career — Jaiswal will continue to represent Mumbai, the most successful team in Indian domestic cricket.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday approved Jaiswal’s request to withdraw his earlier application for a No Objection Certificate (NOC). The 23-year-old left-handed batter had surprised many in April by requesting an NOC from MCA to play for another state. The MCA had initially accepted his request. Reports had linked him with the Goa team, where he was even rumoured to be in line for captaincy.

However, in May, Jaiswal wrote a letter to the MCA, asking them to cancel the issuance of his NOC. On Monday, MCA’s Apex Council approved his request to withdraw the application. The MCA confirmed, “The Apex Council has approved Yashasvi Jaiswal’s request to withdraw his NOC. He had earlier requested to represent another state. However, he will now continue playing for Mumbai.”

Interestingly, another Mumbai cricketer, Prithvi Shaw, had recently requested permission from MCA to represent another state. His request has been approved.
