Afghanistan made a big upset by defeating Australia in the Super-8 of T20 World Cup 2024. Afghanistan defeated Australia by 21 runs. The 7-time champion Australian team looked completely helpless in front of Afghanistan’s bowlers. Now Afghanistan has increased its hopes of reaching the semi-finals with this win. Now the situation has become challenging for Australia and their next match is against India.

In fact, Afghanistan, Australia and Bangladesh are in Group 1 along with India in Super-8. If we look at the points table of this group, India is at the top with 4 points after winning 2 matches. Australia is at the second position with one win and one loss. In such a situation, if Australia has to reach the final, then the next match will have to be won by a big margin. This will improve its net run rate. Australia is now facing India.

The Afghanistan team is at the third position in the points table with 2 points. It has played 2 matches and won 1, but Afghanistan’s net run rate is in minus. If it has to reach the semi-finals, then it will have to win the next match against Bangladesh by a very big margin. Along with this, we will also have to pray for Australia’s defeat.

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to bowl first. Afghanistan, who came to bat first, could score only 148 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs despite a good start. For Afghanistan, both openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 60 and Ibrahim Zadran scored 51 runs. Pat Cummins took a brilliant hat-trick for Australia. In response, the entire Australian team was reduced to 127 runs.
