Ajinkya Rahane, the experienced Indian batsman, recently disclosed the rationale behind his decision to withdraw from his county commitments with Leicestershire. Rahane explained that he needed some rest before the upcoming domestic season as he had been continuously involved in cricket for the past four months.
Initially planning to join Leicestershire for the One-Day Cup, Rahane’s participation was delayed due to his commitments with the India national cricket team. He represented India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final and a two-match Test series against the West Indies.
Emphasizing the honor of representing Mumbai, Rahane stated that he is currently focusing on his fitness and preparing for the upcoming Indian domestic season. He expressed his gratitude to Leicestershire for understanding his situation and hoped to continue his association with them in the future.
“The last 4 months have been gratifying, and with the high-intensity cricket that we have played, it is now time to recuperate and recharge my body for the domestic season that lies ahead of us.”
“Representing Mumbai at every stage possible has always been a matter of honor for me, and I will be working hard on my fitness over the next 2 months to be at my best for the domestic season which starts in October.”

“Hence, I have decided to opt out of the planned county stint with Leicestershire and prepare for the Indian domestic season.”
“Leicestershire have been in regular touch with me and have been very understanding of the changing situation, and I am hopeful of renewing my relationship with them in the future.”
Recalled to the national team for the WTC final due to Shreyas Iyer’s injury, Rahane put up impressive performances with scores of 89 and 46 runs in the two innings of the summit clash. However, he faced a bit of a struggle against the West Indies, managing only 11 runs in two innings.
