Indian opener Shubman Gill had an impressive performance in Team India’s thrilling final-over win against New Zealand on Wednesday, where he scored a double-century.
The player of the match also gave a special mention to his teammate Ishan Kishan, who had recently scored a double century in a match against Bangladesh. Gill’s knock of 208 off 149 balls helped India reach 349/8 in the 50-over match.
Following his impressive performance on Wednesday, Shubman Gill participated in a candid conversation with India captain Rohit Sharma and his roommate Ishan Kishan. The conversation was recorded and shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in which Gill revealed how Kishan disrupts his pre-match routine by not using earphones while watching movies at a loud volume, leading to daily fights between them.
The entire conversation between the three players can be found in the video shared by BCCI.
Gill also shared that Kishan is one of his best friends and that they often have pre-match banter. Shubman Gill made history by becoming the fifth Indian batter to score a double century in men’s ODI cricket. He also achieved the notable feat of surpassing batting legend Sachin Tendulkar as the highest individual run-getter against New Zealand in the 50-over format. Tendulkar had previously scored an unbeaten knock of 186 against New Zealand in Hyderabad in 1999.
At 23 years old, Gill is also the youngest batter to register a double hundred in the 50-over format. Additionally, he holds the record as the fastest Indian to complete 1,000 runs in ODI cricket.
