Green’s impressive performances during the Ashes elevated his status as Australia’s lead all-rounder in Test cricket. He played a pivotal role in Australia’s triumphant World Test Championship campaign, culminating in a victory over India in the final at The Oval.

Acknowledging Root’s status as a certified “world-class” batsman, Green expressed his excitement in a video released by Cricket Australia (CA):

“Getting the best players in the world out is always a great challenge, and Joe Root certainly falls into that category. I believe he saw it as an opportunity to score some runs, and I was pleased to bowl a few good deliveries.”

Green continued, emphasizing Root’s dominance in English conditions and his eagerness to face the challenge. “He is undoubtedly a world-class player and has been a force in English cricket for the past few years. I am looking forward to the challenge.”

Green’s remarkable form over the past few months has been instrumental in his success. He had an exceptional debut season with the Mumbai Indians in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) and carried that momentum into the WTC final.

Excited about the swing bowling conditions in England, Green aims to exploit the rare opportunities that come with it. “As a bowler, coming to England and experiencing swing is something I look forward to. Usually, when I bowl in Australia, there isn’t much swing. So, I am thrilled to have something to work with here. Some of the guys have mentioned that the ball swings excessively. I will be working on my skill set, using a wobble seam, and experimenting with different techniques.”
