Joe Root, the highly acclaimed English batsman, has added another feather to his cap by achieving a remarkable milestone in his cricketing career. During the Ashes opener, Root experienced a first-time occurrence as he was stumped for the very first time, etching his name into the record books. This dismissal came as he attempted a big shot against Nathan Lyon’s bowling. However, Root’s contribution to England’s first innings was invaluable, as his unbeaten 118 played a crucial role in helping his team reach a total of 393 after winning the toss and choosing to bat.

Unfortunately, during the fourth day of play in the 2023 Ashes, Root’s aggressive approach didn’t go as planned. On Monday, June 19, while facing Nathan Lyon in the second innings, he fell victim to one shot too many and paid the price. This marked the first time in his Test career that Root was stumped, having scored 46 runs before his dismissal. It’s worth mentioning that he had also achieved an unbeaten century in the first innings.

Despite the dismissal, Root’s achievement is extraordinary. He now holds the record for the second-most runs scored before being stumped in Test cricket, surpassing the previous positions held by cricketing legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Only the West Indies great, Shiv Chanderpaul, has accumulated more runs before being dismissed in this manner.
