Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for implementing the Decision Review System (DRS) in domestic cricket.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Ashwin noted that DRS could significantly benefit batters by helping them refine their technique, which is crucial for international cricket. He cited an example from the Duleep Trophy 2024, where India D’s Ricky Bhui was dismissed by Manav Suthar. Ashwin highlighted a major technical flaw in Bhui’s defensive shot, which might have gone unnoticed without DRS.

Bhui attempted to defend a delivery with his bat positioned behind his pad, resulting in a leg-before-wicket (LBW) decision. Ashwin emphasized that, in the pre-DRS era, this would likely have been considered not out. However, with advanced technology such as high-quality cameras and ultra-edge, the third umpire can accurately determine whether the batter edged the ball or struck the pad first.
