Asia Cup 2023: Jasprit Bumrah to Return

According to a senior board official who is monitoring Jasprit Bumrah's recovery, the signs of his return for the Ireland series are highly positive.

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action since the T20Is against Australia in September 2022, is likely to make a comeback in the three T20Is against Ireland in August. Bumrah has been progressing well in his recovery and is expected to be in peak fitness when he returns to international cricket.

After undergoing back surgery in March of this year, the seamer underwent an extensive rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The series against Ireland will provide Bumrah with valuable playing time before two important white-ball tournaments. Following the three T20I matches, India will participate in the Asia Cup in September and then shift focus to the 50-over World Cup, which will be held in India during October and November.

According to a senior board official who is monitoring Jasprit Bumrah’s recovery, the signs of his return for the Ireland series are highly positive.

During his recovery process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Jasprit Bumrah has been closely monitored by NCA chairman VVS Laxman and Nitin Patel, who serves as the chairman of the Sports Science and Medicine department. Patel, who previously worked as the head physio for the Mumbai Indians and the Indian cricket team, had the opportunity to work closely with Bumrah at the NCA.

S Rajnikanth, the physiotherapist at the NCA and a former member of the Delhi Capitals support team, has also played a significant role in Bumrah’s rehabilitation. Rajnikanth has worked closely with the Indian seamer to ensure that his recovery is progressing according to plan. In the past, Rajnikanth has provided assistance to athletes such as Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya in their recovery processes.
