In an unfortunate twist of fate, Bangladesh’s prominent batsman Litton Das has been unable to board the flight to Sri Lanka, the designated host of Asia Cup 2023, due to an ongoing illness. Litton Das, who recently fell ill with a viral fever, remained at his residence while the rest of the team embarked on their journey to Sri Lanka for the much-anticipated opening match of the tournament against the Sri Lankan team.

Jalal Younus, the Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), disclosed that Litton Das will join the team once he fully recovers from the viral infection. However, if his recovery is delayed, the BCB will be compelled to designate a replacement for this significant event.

“Litton is currently grappling with a fever. Thankfully, his tests for Dengue came back negative. If he recuperates quickly, he will catch the next available flight to Sri Lanka. However, if his recovery is delayed, we will need to consider arranging a replacement,” Younus stated.

Litton Das has held a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s One Day International (ODI) setup, amassing a notable 2213 runs in 72 matches, which includes five centuries. His remarkable performance in the 50-over format during the previous year saw him accumulate 577 runs at an impressive average of 52.45. Given his exceptional form, his potential absence could pose a significant setback for the Bangladesh team.

As the commencement of Asia Cup 2023 approaches, Bangladesh is set to initiate their campaign with a high-intensity opening encounter against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on August 31. The absence of Litton Das due to illness raises uncertainties about the team’s preparations and strategies for this crucial match.
