This marks the first time since 2008 that matches of a multi-nation tournament will be held in Pakistan. Najam Sethi, chair of the PCB management committee, expressed his excitement about the acceptance of the hybrid model, stating that it allows the PCB to remain as the event host and stage matches in Pakistan, with Sri Lanka serving as the neutral venue. This arrangement became necessary due to the Indian cricket team’s inability to travel to Pakistan.
In the 2023 Asia Cup, the participating teams will be divided into two groups. Group A will consist of India, Pakistan, and Nepal, while Group B will include Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage. From the Super Four stage, the top two teams will compete in the final match. The matches will be played in the 50-over format, serving as preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India scheduled for October-November.
