KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are not expected to be selected for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, with sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suggesting that their recovery has not been adequate for them to be part of the tournament. The squad for the Asia Cup is likely to be announced this week, and it seems these two batters will miss out on the opportunity to participate in the continental championship scheduled from August 30 to September 17.
Despite KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer providing updates on their fitness through social media, sources within the cricketing circles caution against rushing them back into international action too soon. However, there is still hope for them to be considered for the upcoming ODI World Cup later this year, provided they make a full recovery. In such a situation, their potential comeback matches could be during the three-ODI series against Australia in September.

Due to the unavailability of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, it is expected that a majority of the players who participated in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against West Indies will be included in the six-team championship scheduled to take place in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. However, there are likely to be some alterations in the bowling department, as Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and the formidable Jasprit Bumrah are set to make their comeback.
India’s Asia Cup schedule is out and they would start their campaign against Pakistan on 2nd September in Pallekele International Stadium, Sri lanka.
