Asia Cup 2023: Weather Concerns for India vs Pakistan Clash in Kandy - Here's the Weather Forecast

As the Asia Cup 2023 commenced on August 30, with Pakistan facing Nepal and Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh, the cricketing world’s focus is now squarely on the upcoming marquee match between India and Pakistan. However, the weather gods seem to have other plans. The group stage encounter between India and Pakistan is set for September 2, Saturday, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, and the specter of gloomy weather hangs over this much-anticipated clash.

According to Weather.com, the weather in Kandy, Deiyannewela, is expected to remain mostly cloudy with occasional thunderstorms and a high likelihood of rain on September 2. AccuWeather forecasts cloudy and humid conditions with showers expected in Kandy during the afternoon. The BBC Weather outlook also predicts thundershowers along with a gentle breeze throughout the day in Kandy.

The AccuWeather forecast for September 2 suggests that Kandy will be blanketed by thick cloud cover, with a 94% probability of rain. Furthermore, it predicts a 99% chance of rain in the latter half of the day, precisely when the India vs. Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 match is slated to take place.

Implications of India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Group Stage Match Washout:

In the event that the India vs. Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2023 is impacted by rain and ultimately washed out, the following scenarios would unfold:

    1. India Beats Nepal: If India triumphs over Nepal in their group-stage encounter, both India and Pakistan will advance to the Super Fours stage, rendering the outcome of the India vs. Pakistan match inconsequential for their progression.

    2. Nepal Beats India: In the improbable scenario where Nepal defeats India in their group-stage fixture, Pakistan and Nepal would progress to the Super Fours stage. However, this outcome is less likely considering Nepal’s limited experience in the tournament compared to India.
