Asia Cup 2023: Why KL Rahul May Not Play Despite Getting Selected?

The status of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer's fitness raises concerns, as both have been recuperating from a thigh and back injury, respectively.

On Monday, India revealed its 17-member squad that will be traveling for the 2023 Asia Cup. This was followed by a press conference held in Delhi, featuring insights from captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

Looking ahead to the ODI World Cup, India’s performance in the upcoming continental tournament, played in the 50-over format this year, will significantly impact their prospects in the major event scheduled to be held at home later this year. The status of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s fitness raises concerns, as both have been recuperating from a thigh and back injury, respectively. Encouragingly, pace leader Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness has pleasantly surprised everyone during the three-match T20I series against Ireland, making his inclusion in the Asia Cup squad likely.
