Asif Ali’s Valiant Knock Goes in Vain as Sydney Sixers Hold Their Nerve to Win a Nervy Game in BBL 12

Asif Ali nearly pulled off a stunning victory, but ultimately the Sixers came out on top and claimed their first victory in BBL season 12.

The Sydney Sixers breathed a sigh of relief as they finally picked up their first win of the season after some tense moments in the final overs. Asif Ali nearly caused an upset, but the Sixers held on in the end.

Moises Henriques, the skipper of Sydney Sixers, won the toss and elected to bat first against the Hobart Hurricanes at Simonds Stadium, Geelong.

After winning the toss, the Sydney Sixers got off to a great start with the bat, with the opening pair of Kurtis Patterson and Josh Philippe scoring rapidly. They were in control of the game at 68/0. It looked like they would score more runs on this wicket, but things didn’t work out as planned. The opening pair were sent back quickly, and the Sixers struggled at 84/5. Hayden Kerr and James Vince stitched together a match-saving stand of 53 runs in the last few overs to add some much-needed runs to the scoreboard. In the end, they set a target of 138 runs for the Hurricanes in 14 overs, as the overs were limited because of rain.

Hobart Hurricanes began their chase, but the openers departed in two consecutive overs. This put undue pressure on the rest of the batting line-up, who struggled to get the timing right. They looked completely down and out at one point when their scoreboard read 73 for 5. With the very first ball of the Power Surge, David Miller departed. But Asif Ali was not ready to back down, and he smashed 41 off just 13 balls. His incredible knock was on the losing side in the end, resulting in a 6-run win for the Sydney Sixers.
