However, India’s ascent was preceded by a loss in the initial Test of the two-match series in Centurion in late December. Meanwhile, Australia, rebounding from their defeat to India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early in 2023, have witnessed an impressive resurgence. They triumphed in the World Test Championship final and retained the Ashes in England.
