Australia has announced their 18-player squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, including surprise selections of leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha and all-rounder Aaron Hardie.
Notably, Test star Marnus Labuschagne is omitted. Captain Pat Cummins is recovering from a fractured wrist, but selectors view the enforced rest as positive ahead of the tournament. Australia will prepare with a series against South Africa, giving opportunities to Tanveer and Hardie.
Chief selector George Bailey believes the squad is well-balanced and confident in their chances to claim a sixth World Cup title.
Australia has announced an all-rounder heavy squad with the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardie, Ashton Agar, Sean Abbott and Glenn Maxwell being included.
However, this is only the preliminary or provisional squad that can undergo many changes before the World Cup 2023. Under ICC regulations World Cup squads must be finalised prior to September 28.
