Australia’s assistant coach, Daniel Vettori, will step away from his duties midway through the opening Test against India in Perth to attend the IPL mega auction, scheduled for November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The auction coincides with the Perth Test, which begins on November 22, 2024.
Apart from his role with the Australian team, the 45-year-old Vettori also serves as the head coach of IPL franchise SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).
“We fully support Dan’s responsibilities as head coach of SunRisers Hyderabad. He will oversee the final preparations for the first Test before attending the IPL auction and will return for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” an Australian team spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo.

To cover for Vettori during the Perth Test, Cricket Australia’s national development coach, Lachlan Stevens, will step in.
Impact on Other Key Figures
Vettori isn’t the only high-profile cricket figure missing due to the IPL auction. Ricky Ponting, head coach of Punjab Kings, and Justin Langer, head coach of Lucknow Super Giants, will skip their commentary duties for Channel Seven during the Test.
