The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squads for the upcoming tour of West Indies, which includes two Tests, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and a five-match T20 International series. The selection committee has introduced some fresh faces, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and pacer Mukesh Kumar earning their maiden call-ups to the Indian team. However, veteran players Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammed Shami have been left out.
Ajinkya Rahane, who made a successful comeback to the Test team during the World Test Championship final, has been named the vice-captain for the tour. Additionally, fast bowler Navdeep Saini has made a return to the squad. In the ODI squad, Sanju Samson and Jaydev Unadkat have been included.
In an official statement, the BCCI said, “The Men’s Selection Committee has finalized India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series and three ODIs against the West Indies. India is also scheduled to play five T20Is, and the squad for the same will be announced later.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s impressive performances for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 caught the selectors’ attention. He amassed 625 runs in the tournament with a striking strike rate of 163. The young cricketer from Mumbai boasts an average of 80.21 in 15 matches, including nine centuries, with a highest score of 265.
