As the T20 World Cup 2024 approaches in West Indies and USA, the BCCI Selection Committee is gearing up for strategic player monitoring during IPL 2024. With a plan to shortlist 25-30 players, the committee aims to observe potential talents for inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad. Notably, the participation of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is uncertain, prompting Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar to discuss this matter with Rahul Dravid in Cape Town during the India-South Africa Test series.
Unlike earlier plans, the BCCI has abandoned the idea of instructing franchises to limit matches for shortlisted players during IPL. Instead, they opt for a more flexible approach, creating a larger pool of players. This decision allows for adaptability in case of injuries, emphasizing the importance of having at least two players available for every position.

The monitoring process involves the National Cricket Academy (NCA) physios and the BCCI medical team. The NCA will maintain open communication with franchises to assess and manage player workloads effectively throughout IPL 2024.
In addition to the focus on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the selection committee plans to construct a well-rounded pool of players. This strategic approach ensures the availability of like-for-like replacements, providing depth and versatility to the squad. The ultimate goal is to be well-prepared for any scenario, especially considering the high-stakes nature of T20 cricket and the potential challenges that may arise during the World Cup.
