The second match of the 5-match T20I series between India Women and England Women will be played tomorrow, Tuesday, 1 July. Ahead of this match, the ICC has dealt a major blow to England. Due to a slow over-rate in the first match, the ICC has fined England 10 percent of their match fee. In that game, the hosts suffered a heavy defeat by 97 runs.

According to the ICC, England failed to bowl their 20 overs within the stipulated time and were two overs short. As a result, match referee Helen Pack from the Emirates ICC International Panel imposed the fine.

The ICC said in a statement, “According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.”

There was no need for a formal hearing as England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt accepted the proposed sanction and pleaded guilty. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires James Middlebrook and Jacqueline Williams, third umpire Sue Redfern, and fourth umpire Anna Harris.

Talking about the match, England won the toss and chose to bowl first. Thanks to a historic century from Smriti Mandhana, Team India managed to post a total of 210 runs on the board. This was Mandhana’s first T20I century, and she became the first Indian woman cricketer to score a century in all three formats. She scored 112 runs off 62 balls. In reply, England were bowled out for just 113 runs in 14.5 overs.
