Chennai Stadium ODI Records and Stats- India vs Australia ODI World Cup 2023

Over the course of 36 years, spanning from 1987 to 2023, a total of 23 matches have graced the MA Chidambaram Stadium. These contests have seen an average first-inning score of 233.

Remarkably, despite the seemingly modest score of 233, teams batting first have triumphed in 14 matches, largely owing to the bowler-friendly nature of the Chennai pitch, which heavily favors spin.

The highest team total recorded at this venue stands at 337/7, achieved by the ACC Asia XI in 2007 against the Africa XI. Conversely, the lowest total ever posted here is a meager 69, a struggle faced by Kenya in 2011.

Individual brilliance has also shone at this stadium, with former Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar’s memorable 194 runs in 1997 marking the highest individual batting score. Similarly, Ravi Rampaul’s exceptional bowling performance in 2011, where he secured figures of 10-0-51-5, remains the best bowling display in this arena.

In terms of successful run chases, the highest occurred in 2019 when the West Indies chased down a target of 288 runs with 8 wickets in hand and 13 balls to spare. Conversely, the lowest score defended here was 171 by England in 2011 against South Africa.

India has been a participant in 15 matches at this stadium, boasting a 7-6 win-loss record in Chennai. However, their recent record shows two consecutive losses, with their latest defeat at the hands of Australia, who triumphed by 21 runs earlier this year.

Australia, despite encountering foreign conditions, has played six matches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and boasts an impressive 5-1 win-loss record. Notably, in three of these encounters against India, the Aussies hold a 2-1 win-loss record at this iconic venue.
