Willey comes from a cricketing family, being the son of former England cricketer and international umpire Peter Willey.

A highlight of his career was being part of the England team that clinched victory in the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, on November 1, 2023, Willey announced his retirement from international cricket, following the conclusion of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

David Willey T20 Career

David Willey’s cricketing journey expanded beyond international cricket as he ventured into various T20 leagues around the world. After a successful stint with the Perth Scorchers in the 2015–16 Big Bash League (BBL) season, where he showcased his prowess with both bat and ball, he was retained for the following season.

His versatility was evident as he continued to excel in different leagues. Willey was signed by the Chennai Super Kings for the 2018 IPL season, where he stepped in as a replacement for injured players and made significant contributions to the team’s campaign.

Subsequently, he was retained by the Chennai Super Kings for the 2019 IPL season but was later released ahead of the 2020 IPL auction. In a twist of fate, Willey found himself donning the jersey of the Royal Challengers Bangalore after being bought in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament.

Additionally, he joined the Northern Superchargers as the captain for the inaugural edition of The Hundred tournament, showcasing his leadership skills and adaptability across different formats of the game. Despite being replaced as captain when Faf du Plessis returned, Willey’s impact on the team was significant.

Throughout his career in various T20 leagues, Willey’s ability to perform under pressure and contribute effectively with both bat and ball has made him a sought-after player in the global T20 circuit.
