Dinesh Karthik (DK) officially announced his retirement from all formats of cricket, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), on June 1. However, just 30 days later, DK has been given a significant responsibility in the IPL. He has been appointed as the batting coach and mentor of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team.
In a social media post, RCB shared the news, stating, “Welcoming our keeper back in every sense, Dinesh Karthik returns to RCB in a new avatar. DK will be the batting coach and mentor of the RCB men’s team. You can take a man out of cricket, but you can’t take cricket out of the man! Shower him with love, 12th Man Army!”
In IPL 2024, RCB’s coaching staff included head coach Andy Flower, batting coach Sridharan Sriram, bowling coach Adam Griffith, and fielding coach Malolan Rangarajan.
It’s worth noting that wicketkeeper-batsman Karthik announced his retirement on his 39th birthday, June 1 (Saturday). He was seen playing for RCB in the recent IPL season.
Karthik made his retirement announcement through a social media post. He wrote, “I am overwhelmed by the affection, support, and love I have received over the past few days. I extend my deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all the fans who made this possible. After much contemplation, I have decided to step away from cricket. I officially announce my retirement. Leaving my playing days behind, I am ready for the new challenges ahead.”
In his post, Karthik thanked his coaches, captains, selectors, and support staff members. He also expressed his gratitude to his parents, calling them his strength, and thanked his wife, Dipika Pallikal.
